Such a small cheat sheet for less advanced administrators. 😉

directory structure

In the Unix file system is visible in the form of a virtual directory located in the directory "/". We find here, such as catalogs:

/bin - containing basic console command
/etc - contains system configuration files
/dev - devices containing files
/lib - containing essential system
/sys - containing system files
/usr - contains the files and programs intended for users, in some systems they are placed inside it as users' home directories.
/where - comprising m.in. system logs and files used by the so-called. Daemony, that is, applications executing system services (mail service, printer, e.t.c.)
/tmp - temporary files directory

In Linux you can also find:

/root - home directory administrator
/sbin - instructions for use administrator
/proc - virtual virtual directory containing files with information about the state of the system and computer
/boot - having m. in. Information for the launcher kernel (LILO, Grub)
/home - directory containing users' home directories

The / usr directory contains a similar structure as the / - can be found in the / usr / bin, /usr/lib, /usr/etc itp. Usually in subdirectories / placed most important for the functioning of the system software and applications, and under / usr - Others.
