Iftop listens on the specified interface and displays real-time bandwidth consumed during the data connection pairs of hosts.
Installation (assuming that you are logged in as root console) It is the most favorite things in our environment simple and comes down to a single command:
Systems Debian / Ubuntu:
1 | apt-get install iftop |
CentOS
1 | yum install iftop |
The run command
1 | iftop |
So we are ready to analyze what links squeaks, but a small note: iftop need the appropriate permissions to monitor network traffic, so we run it as administrator.
and the main screen, we see the active connections and thus a pair of computer addresses between which is a combination of.
Further 3 columns of numbers are the average bandwidth calculated respectively over the past 2, 10 i 40 seconds. The movement can be observed both in both directions (that enters and exits as shown above screen'ie), and only incoming or outgoing - switch the button "t".
In summary, we see lines "TX" and "RX", that is sent and received data, where "cum" is their total "weight" since the start of iftop, and "peak" is a peak at this time. While the column "rates" is the amount of data in periods 2, 10 i 40 seconds.
