The following guide describes how to install Memcached on a CentOS system 8.
We will complete it in a few minutes by following a few simple steps in the console.

We start the terminal and install the memcached package

dnf install memcached libmemcached -y

Run it on your system:

systemctl enable memcached --now

Check the status of services:

systemctl status memcached

Now we will do the configuration.

edit file:

nano /etc/sysconfig/memcached

We find the ruler:

OPTIONS="-l 127.0.0.1,::1"

And we change it to :

OPTIONS="-l application-server-ip,::1"

We restart the service:

systemctl restart memcached

If we use a firewall we add ports to the exceptions and reload it.

firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=11211/udp --permanent
firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=11211/tcp --permanent
firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-source=application-server-ip/32 --permanent
firewall-cmd --reload

If we want to add extensions to php we execute the following commands:

dnf install php-pecl-memcached php-pecl-memcache -y

to Python:

pip install pymemcache
pip install python-memcached
